Originally built at Ford's Dearborn Michigan plant as a rare X-code Ford Mustang Fastback, this 1968 example has been completely restored as a custom Shelby GT500 tribute. It features a fuel-injected 429ci V8 engine with extensive performance upgrades along with a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, 3.73 limited slip 9'' rear axle, Wilwood disc brakes, power steering, Heidts coil overs, and custom bodywork with functional side scoops. Said to have been completed after 10 years as a no-expense-spared restoration, this one-off Mustang Fastback custom is now being offered for sale by its seller out of Rhode Island. This Mustang Fastback is said to have been fitted with new single-piece floors and frame rails during its restoration as well as new quarter panels, inner fenders, wheel wells, and reinforcements for the adjustable coil over kit. The body is finished in Black Metallic paint with Grey Metallic over-the-top stripes and new chrome trim. Other accessories include Shelby GT500 decals and badging, functional air intake side scoops, side-exit exhaust pipes, a ram-air hood cowl, auxiliary driving lamps, and American Racing Shelby 407 wheels with Shelby knockoff-style center caps and Nitto NT555 tires sized 245/45 R17 in the front and 315/35 R17 in the rear. The new interior is appointed with high-back front bucket seats and folding rear seats in black leather along with deluxe brushed aluminum door and dash panels, a tilting steering wheel, Carroll Shelby Signature instrumentation, and AutoMeter gauges. Other accessories include center and overhead consoles with map lights, an AM/FM/USB radio, GT500 Eleanor-style seatbelts, and a Hurst shifter. The 429ci V8 engine is said to have been completely rebuilt and includes ported heads, MSD ignition, a Holley Sniper EFI fuel injection system, an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, and custom-made stainless-steel headers. The engine also features a custom fuel tank and electric fuel pump. A claimed output of 500 HP and 550 ft. lbs. of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec TK0 600 5-speed manual transmission with a Modern Driveline conversion kit and 3.73 limited-slip 9'' rear axle. The chassis also features power-assisted rack and pinion steering, a shock tower delete kit, Heidts fully adjustable coil overs, Q1A shocks, frame connectors, a new wiring harness, and Wilwood disc brakes with a 7/8” bore master cylinder. The seller states an overhaul of the motor and engine compartment wiring was completed during the summer of 2022.
